Teeth Whitening
People with stained or dull teeth usually
benefit from whitening, which is a safe and effective way
to brighten teeth. Professional teeth bleaching products,
which contain peroxides, actually change your natural tooth
colour anywhere from five to ten shades brighter. At Ellerslie
Highway Dental Centre we have the latest tooth whitening system
to suit all budgets.

Root Canal Treatments
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics,
is a dental procedure designed to treat infection or decay
that has occurred at the centre of the tooth. Root canal treatment
is designed to save the tooth and prevent the spread of infection.
The damaged pulp is removed from the tooth and the root canal
is then cleaned of all bacteria. After the bacteria has been
removed, the root canal and pulp are filled in using an artificial
substance, before being sealed. Root canal treatment is commonly
perceived as being a painful procedure. In fact, in the hands
of a properly trained dentist, root canal treatment is relatively
painless, and it should be no more unpleasant than having
a filling done.

Crowns
Crowns are synthethic caps that fit over
a broken or decayed tooth to restore its shape and function.
Temporary crowns can be made in your dentist's office whereas
permanent crowns are made in a dental laboratory. We often
use dental crowns to restore beauty and strength to a tooth
that has been weakened by decay or injury. The targeted tooth
is prepared by removing damaged areas and shaping it to accommodate
the dental crown. An impression of the prepared tooth is made
so that the crown can be precisely crafted to fit snugly on
the tooth. Once the crown is ready, it is cemented onto the
tooth. At Ellerslie Highway Dental Centre, we primarily use
dental crowns as a restorative dentistry option; however,
we also use them for aesthetic applications such as fixing
minor misalignments and repairing cracks and discolorations.

Dentures (full or partial)
The loss of teeth can be a traumatic event
that leads to diminished self-confidence, oral hygiene problems,
and chewing difficulties. You use your mouth several times
a day, so ideally a lost tooth needs to be replaced with something
that is safe, comfortable, and functional. To that end, dentures
have been used throughout human history as an indefinite tooth
replacement in the event of disease or injury resulting in
loss of teeth.

Bridges
Bridges can be placed to fill in gaps left
by missing teeth. Bridges not only make it easer for patients
to speak and eat, but they also prevent surrounding teeth
from shifting out of place. Dental bridges consist of one
or more artificial teeth that are held in place by crowns. The
procedure to place a dental bridge requires two visits: one
to prepare the adjacent teeth and take an impression of the
area, and a second to place the bridge once it has been custom
made from the impression.

Dental Implants
Implants are devices that replace the roots
of missing teeth, and are used to support crowns, bridges
or dentures. Implants are placed in your jawbone surgically.
Most of the time, implants feel more natural and secure than
other methods of replacing missing teeth, such as dentures.

Cleaning and scaling
This is the process of removing plague and
tartar that are in the surface of the teeth. If plague and
tartar are not removed regularly, it could lead to gum disease
and decayed teeth.

Porcelain Veneers
Dental Veneers are thin superficial coverings
for teeth. They are usually made from porcelain or resin and
are applied to the front teeth. Huge cosmetic improvements
can be made with veneers to rectify the colour, size and shape
of teeth. Dental Veneers require minimal tooth reduction and
are therefore more conservative than crowns. It's not the
only alternative for aesthetic abnormalities, but it's truly
a remarkable restoration with quick results.
